Katie Steele Staff Accountant

Katie’s path to accounting has been anything but linear. His undergraduate degree and first career path was in Outdoor Education. Katie spent 11 years leading and managing adventure-based programs in the woods of New Hampshire – taking kids rock climbing, backpacking, and whitewater canoeing. As the direct of the ropes course and adventure program at YMCA Camp Takodah, Katie worked with thousands of kids and trained dozens of young staff members in the hard and soft skills of leading kids through challenging outdoor activities. Katie has also taught middle school algebra, worked in math education research for Harvard, been an EMT, and worked in stone fabrication, among other things. In 2012, Katie moved to CA for a change of scenery, and injured two discs in his back not long after. This sent Katie back to school for an MBA.
In grad school, Katie took to his accounting classes quickly and frequently tutored his peers outside of class. In 2016 Katie did a summer bookkeeping internship with a small nonprofit in Berkeley, where he got the chance to manage day-to-day transactions as well as problem solve a corrupted Quickbooks file. Katie loved the puzzle and problem solving nature of accounting. After graduating in 2017, Katie joined the finance team at another nonprofit as part-time support preparing the organization for their annual audit. Katie joins Propeller excited to learn and grow as an accounting professional in a dynamic environment where he can support clients with diverse passions and dreams.
Outside of work, Katie still loves the outdoors and being an educator. He volunteers with a research group currently writing two books on gender in early childhood, plays percussion with a national LGBTQ+ symphonic band, and enjoys going on adventures with friends and family.
